Narconon today is a fulfillment of the original agenda and commitment of its founder, William Benitez. He was a former drug addict and prisoner, in the State of Arizona, and wanted to enable others to beat their addiction, just as he had done himself. Particularly Mr. Benitez strove to help the poor and disadvantaged, delinquents and criminals to live a contented and happy, constructive and ethical life - free of drug use and criminality.

A common Goal to Eliminate the Scourge of Drug Addiction

The story of William Benitez and his founding of Narconon, which means narcotics - none, is a story all of its own. L. Ron Hubbard only became personally involved well after Benitez' programs had been initiated in the Arizona State prison.

Narconon's relationship with Mr. Hubbard today is based upon the original connection between William Benitez and him. It happened when Benitez first read a book by Hubbard entitled "Scientology - The Fundamentals of Thought," while awaiting placement in Arizona Prison on a narcotics charge.

Both men were crusaders in a common cause to see the scourge of drug addiction eliminated from the community, to enhance the health and well being of future generations.

Each was committed to the development of a drug addiction recovery program that would achieve what no other drug treatment plan did - a comprehensive drug rehabilitation program that can help people to become substance abuse and addiction free.

A Request for Assistance

When William Benitez first approached L. Ron Hubbard for assistance he was provided with resources and materials to assist with the expansion of the program. Mr. Hubbard helped first to incorporate more intensive assistance for people in drug withdrawal and later introduced the sauna detoxification protocol.
